I'm not so sure about hanging onto it if you can't ID the black stuff.frazgohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17198308811995511973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2049302646044613028.post-26155498290496051332010-12-24T12:46:18.000-08:002010-12-24T12:46:18.000-08:00I have starter that I have had for years. When I make waffles, I put in two cups of flour and two cups of half and half. This last time, I let it sit one year before it started making hooch. I stirred the hooch back in. Now it has started making black flakes after being fed and sitting at room temp. for one day. Is it ok to use???Wichitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16877547808780509785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2049302646044613028.post-75723697168875506942010-12-16T13:00:23.909-08:002010-12-16T13:00:23.909-08:00Nice info about hooch.

They just let it get back to room temp and start growing it again.shelby-knitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02450262737771734925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2049302646044613028.post-55428283011209293482010-09-08T15:08:13.208-07:002010-09-08T15:08:13.208-07:00Adam: It's possible that two months killed it,...Adam: It's possible that two months killed it, and it took two feedings to revive it because it was essentially a new starter, plus the remains of the old one.WurdBendurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14125410209080713168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2049302646044613028.post-71728273853733441572009-06-16T09:06:40.796-07:002009-06-16T09:06:40.796-07:00I've actually had a difference experience with...I've actually had a difference experience with refrigerating starter. I've had starter in the fridge for 2 months with no feedings and recover fine after feeding it twice. I'm sure it's better to do it more often, but it seems to work if it sits there awhile.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06365269214227230496noreply@blogger.com
